For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
And some people, craving money, have
wandered from the true faith and pierced
themselves with many sorrows. I Timothy 6: 10
The Bible does not say that money is sinful but it does warn us that we must not love money more than we love God or more than we love other people – those are major sins.
Money serves a valuable purpose but it can be misused.
† Here are 4 of the Bible’s teachings on money
1. We should work to earn our money, never cheating or stealing from anyone for it.
Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich. Proverbs 28: 6
2. Jesus said we should give back a portion of the money we make to the church as an offering.
You should tithe, yes. Luke 11: 42a
3. The Bible also encourages us not to borrow too much money (using things such as credit cards).
Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender. Proverbs 22: 7
4. Finally it teaches us that we should always save a portion of our income to be prepared in the case of an emergency.
The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get. Proverbs 21: 20
We must make sure we control our money in the right way and that we are not being controlled by our money
