Racism & Sexism
When a foreigner lives with you in your own land, don’t
take advantage of him. Treat the foreigner the
same as the native. Love him like one of your own.
Leviticus 19: 33 – 34
The Bible has always been clear that in God’s eyes all people are the same. God created all the diversity in the world – men and women and all the different races of people and languages that they use – and He expects us to respect both genders and all races.
† Jesus strongly condemns men who just see women as sexual objects to be used or taken advantage of.
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5: 27 – 28
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 3: 28
Jesus tells a story (called the Parable of the Good Samaritan) in Luke 10: 25 – 37.
The story is about a man of one race doing a nice deed for a man of a different race. Jesus is not trying to make the point that we should do nice things for each other. Instead, He uses an example of someone doing a nice deed to make the point that we should treat each other the same regardless of our race.
† If He were telling the story today, Jesus might use the example of a black man helping a white man to make His point.
Although the Bible tells Christians they should not date or marry non-Christians, it does not in any way forbid people of different races or languages dating or marrying each other.
