God put the wrong on him who never did anything

wrong, so we could be put right with God.   II Corinthians 5: 21

The bible teaches us that God is holy and perfect and that He requires us to be perfect if we are to be in His presence.
† But humans sin and the penalty for the sin in our life is death (dying a physical death in our current body and dying a spiritual death by being separated from God forever).

But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:48

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Romans 3: 23 – 24

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

It is natural think that we are required to make up or pay for our sins. We feel as though we are supposed to earn our way back into God’s favor with good deeds.
† But if every action we take is supposed to be perfect, doing things the right way is only doing what we are supposed to do in the first place and, therefore, will not make up for something else bad we did. Once we have committed even one sin, we can never pay for it ourselves
† That is why Jesus had to die to pay our debt. Because only He was perfect enough to satisfy God’s righteous standards
